Games Workshop Abolishes Gender just to be Done with it All
An absolutely normal amount of discussion has been occurred on the internet in the days since Games Workshop declared that there have always been female Custodians. Hordes of 40K fans who were this close to take a break from watching YouTube lore recaps and buy their first set of space marines have declared coed barracks to be the linchpin detail of galaxy-spanning Imperium of Man. Because of this uproar, Games Workshop has decided to get ahead of any future controversy and simply abolish gender in the 41st century.
In a series of increasingly flippant tweets, Games Workshop declared that all characters in the Warhammer 40K universe will be referred to as “it.” Per the Games Workshop Twitter, “’It’ is the most accurate pronoun available to refer both to little pieces of molded plastic and to the soldiers of the Imperium. It is technically possible to use the pronoun ‘they’ or ‘them’ when talking about multiple units, but remember that you are using it in the absence of gender, rather than gender neutrality.” Games Workshop later said they had thought about introducing forty thousand genders, but decided that abolishing gender would be easier than delving into the entirety of gender academia for brand cohesion.
When we reached out to ask how these changes would affect the other factions in the 40K universe, the Games Workshop didn’t seem to understand the question. “Other factions? Oh, I see what the issue is. You think that anyone gives a moment’s thought to Tyranid lore? We could announce that the Genestealers have been seeding planets in a specific order that spells out the entire works of bell hooks in cursive when viewed from their homeworld. We’d be lucky to get a confused YouTube comment.”
