Vampire Also Not Being Sold, Announces Renegade Studios To Back of Wizards’ Press Conference
The Vampire: The Masquerade IP was not being purchased by Tencent,
President of Renegade Game Studios Scott Gaeta said to a large group of
reporters last month, all of who had their backs turned to him as they paid
attention to Wizards of the Coast representatives discussing the rumors
of the Chinese multimedia conglomerate purchasing Dungeons & Dragons.
“As the biggest challenger to D&D in the 1990s, it’s easy to understand
why people might think large companies would be eager to leverage the
many strengths of Vampire: The Masquerade into other media,” Gaeta
shouted to the large-yet-uncaring crowd facing away from him. “But we
are committed to Vampire’s success, and we–Hello? Are you
listening?–we believe that Vampire’s ability to craft gothic tales
of–no, this is different than D&D, it’s–tales of personal horror
continue to resonate with today’s gamers.”
Gaeta also stressed Vampire’s video game line as he tried to get people
to turn around and acknowledge his existence, often by “tripping” into
them and apologizing, then saying their shirt reminds them of “that one
character from the Bloodlines 2 trailer.” However, attempts to further
elaborate on Vampire’s future media development were often cut short by
the recipient working their arm free from Gaeta’s grasp and moving away
from him.
Several journalists in the crowd noted that Gaeta was being somewhat
evasive in his follow-up answers as they tried to get more information
from him, asking if he knew where the bathrooms were, if anything had
been mentioned about a sequel to Baldur’s Gate 3, and if he could “stop
talking about your Dracula thing” so they could listen to the WotC
representative.
As the crowd dispersed at the end of the conference, a reporter asked
him if Vampire was a new Curse of Strahd product. Gaeta began to explain
that it was better than Curse of Strahd, but when it was made clear that
Vampire was a different game, the reporter rolled their eyes and walked
away.
